A taste test of PurFoods Fitness meals
I recently had the opportunity to sample several meals from Purfoods Fitness and experience the delivery system. Hopefully this information will be helpful to those of you needing support in getting healthy meals that taste great but are designed to help you achieve your or your client's fitness and wellness goals.
Now for those that don't know me it's huge that I could find something to eat that I wasn't allergic to and also liked. So that should tell you a lot right there.
First, the food was shipped and arrived in 48 hours. It came in what was like a mini-refrigerator, a large styrofoam cooler packed with frozen cool packs with all of the meals contained in a separate plastic bag. This cooler was then enclosed in a large cardboard box clearly labeled perishable and which way to open the box. Each meal was contained in a plastic container with each food item in a separate compartment in the container, which was sealed and then had an additional lid on it as well. I felt eco friendly being able to recycle all of the plastic.
Ok now for the taste test! I tried the turkey quesadilla. It came with a large wheat flour tortilla, salsa, shredded cheese(which actually melted) which had some taste and large pieces of turkey. I felt the meat serving was appropriate and yet generous at the same time. Much to my surprise it was seasoned and not bland. I actually had it for dinner even though I think it was really a lunch item. On a hungry night at the end of the week battling fatigue I would not have had one complaint about that meal. It was just too easy. By the way the tortilla was big!
I also tried the Tomato Bruschetta. Now, I've had my share of bruschetta so I'm fairly experienced. I would put this on a weekly rotation. What a wonderful surprise to find that the bread wasn't white and the cheese actually melted. The bread (3 slices baguette size) was great and not hard. Honestly, I was craving for more bread. The tomatoes were contained separately, and had awesome taste. I didn't leave a crumb for anyone!
The Hoisin Chicken was a basic chicken breast that wasn't out of the "easy bake oven". The rice noodles were fine but I honestly could have used more. The sauce was good. I had it for dinner and again I had no significant complaints. The chicken was seasoned but I don't remember as much flavor as with the turkey in the quesadilla. Oh, the apple compote, was like a scalloped apple dish that was very yummy!
I also got the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad. OK, yes, it was a safety item but if this could be messed up I would not have had much hope for the rest of their menu. It was perfectly fine although the croutons were a little skimpy, probably for good reason. The chicken was actually a sliced breast that was seasoned. The cheese and dressing were good and I didn't run short on them. It was simply too easy-fresh, delivered, appropriately portioned and professionally prepared and nutritionally sound without sacrificing taste.
My only word of advice is you should eat all of the fresh meals first as they REALLY REALLY REALLY are fresh without preservatives. I delayed some of my meals and found my tomatoes and lettuce were a bit limp but I was still able to enjoy it anyway. The food really is fresh and a great way to learn portions, get assistance with your nutrition or just have it completely done for you for the short term during busy times or for the long run.
So, basically I liked the food and would recommend it. Use Purfoods Fitness to enjoy your nutritional experience while you achieve your fitness, weight loss and wellness goals. The link to Purfoods is below if you would like to explore the meal options or introduce them to your clients.
